Notes

Today I am doing my set of notes on historical pictures that have influenced or helped our country in anyway.
Next, I will be going through all of my information that Jim Mendenhall provided for me, and I will include them into my notes.

im taking off!

So far everything is going really good.
Jim Mendenhall from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is helping me out a lot.
I read over his long resume which was incredible!
Today I sent him all of my questions.
He will be answering all of my questions and hopefully he will help me with setting up interviews with 1-2 photojournalist that work with the news paper.
Next I will be working on deadlines. Once i figure out when I think they are good, I will pitch them to Savido and get her ideas on them.

did u know...

  • Photojournalism a form of journalism that use images (photography) to tell news stories
  • Photojournalism is distinguished by branches of photography
An quality of photography is Timeliness — the images have meaning in the context of a recently published record of events.
Another quality Objectivity — the situation implied by the images is a fair and accurate representation of the events they depict in both content and tone.
The last important quality Narrative — the images combine with other news elements to make facts relatable to the viewer or reader on a cultural level.
  • In photojournalism people must trust them to see the truth, they must see the truth through the picture, so most people understand the meaning almost rite away
  • Many photojournalist die every year getting visual proof or visual information of dangers in the community or around the world
  • Photographers take pictures of nouns but photojournalist take pictures of action verbs.
  • For 1-4 years you make $29,816
  • For 5-9 years you make $37,374

Essential & Foundation Questions

Today I am working on my essential and foundation questions.

* How does photojournalism effect American society?
  • How do people use photojournalism to express the war?
  • How do photojournalist express problems in their work?
  • What type of danger do photojournalist get close to because of their work?
  • How do photojournalist know when a problem is important?
  • Where do these photo's get posted? Why?
  • Other than major topics, such as the war, what other jobs do photojournalist have?

my collage

today! =]

Today, I worked on my collage. I'm almost finished.

The basic idea of my collage:

Photojournalist, get put into a lot of action. One of the biggest themes for a photojournalist is war. These journalist are actually sent out and are in the middle of a war zone taking pictures. Sounds crazy but its there job. So for my collage, I'm going to include photos that relate to the war and photojournalism.

I want my collage to say a lot. when people see it i want them to understand it. i want people to know it has meaning.

I just started working on my collage but i feel that its almost done.
to test if my collage has meaning and says a lot i will ask people who have no idea what I'm doing my project on what my collage is saying and showing, what does my collage mean?

The what..

What is Photojournalism?

photojournalism is a form of journalism without all of the writing. Photojournalism is when you tell the story by the picture. The picture should looked detailed enough to show what is happening.
There may be captions underneath the picture

Tomorrow I will continue with the who after I finish the second artical for the assignment due on friday.
The blog before this, is my answers to the questions I had to answer for my first artical.

Daily Herald

1. Requirements that the student meet are:
· Students choose a topic they are interested in
· work with a mentor from the community to learn more about their topic.
· research paper, a display board about the topic, a presentation before judges and the creation of a product that relates to their topic.

2. Beyond research:
· Weldon- Chapman's product was giving a massage in front of the judges. He first talked about the muscular system, the power of touch and the uses and results of a massage. People usually get a massage for relaxation, to ease pain or for rejuvenation
· Alexander Price-presented his senior project on tuberculosis and spoke about ways people get the disease, how it is related to HIV and how the disease moves through the body to attack the organs.
· Rashod Dildy-showed judges a clay sculpture of a large cat that he created for his senior project on sculpting. He also discussed the history of art and the steps of sculpting.
· Bryana Cadena-opened her presentation on child abuse and neglect with the fact that each year, 160,000 children suffer severe injuries from child abuse. She explained the different types of child abuse, as well as shaken baby and fetal alcohol syndromes. She also talked about help available for parents and children. For her product, she created a brochure about child abuse and neglect and gave one to each of the judges as she told them what she learned from the project.
3. For Bryana Cadena, she most likely had to:
· Research about child abuse
· Looked up information about agencies that help parents and children
· Maybe went to a hospital or orphanage or something and talked to workers about child abuse in their community

4. none of these projects or details about these projects helped me with mine.
I'm just going to have to look into more detail about my subject and expand my thoughts about Photojournalism.

im getting somewhere.

Today Ms. Savido talked about our essential questions. We were told that soon we should all have one. Right now, I have no essential question, actually right now, i don't even have my resources done.

I don't have either of these done because I just got my new topic at the end of class on Wednesday, and started the work first thing in class on Thursday.

Today I also continued to research my topic. I've been trying to explore the Internet and find good, and detailed websites about my subject. So far, I have about 6 sources.

My next step is to find my last 4 sources.
Then mail them to Savido.
While I do this, I'm going to be trying to figure out a essential question.

Photojournalism (PJ)

Today I researched more about photojournalism (pj).
I'm learning alot of new things and this is getting very interesting.
right now I am working on my key terms, and my websites.
Because I just started working and researching about PJ, I do not have as many vocabulary words, and have very few websites.
but the ones I do have so far, are extremely helpful.

Photojournalist, dont write the report, they capture it. Alot of photojournalist are take a lot of risks and put their lives in a lot of danger.
Other photojournalist though, like to keep it simple. Some just take wedding pictures, others take family pictures, and then theirs those who just pictures of the problems in their city, or neighborhood.

FINALLY!

Today I found my new topic!
I am doing Photojournalism.
Im planning on going to college for Journalism, so maybe this could aslo help narrow down what my "dream job" will be.
First what I have to do is erase my key terms and websites important for poetry, and start all over with my project.
Next, I start my research.

first i starteed off with the key terms

im going to make my list smaller i just have to research and see which words are more important.

its taking forever though.
its very boring.

step by step

ok, so i looked up some some websites.
so far, i have been able to find definitions about poems and a few other things, but im still in the process of looking for the who, when, where, and why.
i already know my reasoning for enjoying poetry, but my reason may not be the same reason for every other writer or reader.
i dont think im going to be able to find the first poem or the person who wrote it, so im going to have to expand my thoughts and ideas on that subject.

today in class i listed more links.
some go to sites with information about poetry, and one goes to a website full of poems that teenagers wrote.
im still doing research, but im a bit lost and confused.

Friday, September 12, 2008

ok i changed my mind all over again
im not writing music,
thats a subject right now that i cant figure out on what im going to do with it or what
so im back at the drawing board.
i think im going to go crazy!

ok well i have to do it on something i love or im going to hate it.
one thing i love is writing and reading poety.
thinking....could i do a project on that...?..how..?

Wednesday, September 10, 2008

okayy

so im looking up information
right now
im getting ready to work on the
  • who
  • what
  • when
  • where
  • why

any advice on my project, please comment

almost there

ok, so here's whats going on.

my grad project is about writing music, thanks brandon for that idea.

im going to try and switch my electives into digital music

where i could learn the making of music

if that doesnt happen

i will...do research, and figure it all out on my own.

i write poetry and enjoy it so, it might be a little challenge but i can make it work

NEXT

im going to have to find an action plan and a way to get involved with music and the community

i will also create a few songs myself and include them in this action plan

in some way.

no this does not mean i will be singing them

im to chicken to do that!

but maybe i can have someone else sing them

but im not sure.

im still thinking..?

Thinking..

Today I narrowed my topics. The topics that I picked are

  • music

  • writing (poetry)

These two topics are a very big deal. They mean more the just reading or listening.

Writing is a very powerful thing. When you write, there has to be emotion, and meaning. Writing can be so inspirational. Writing shows what kind of person you are without even having to tell about yourself.

Music, is so much more then a really good beat. Music takes time, just like writing. You have to create the song(lyrics), which i think is the best part about music. Then you have to connect a perfect beat. There is so much meaning and so much work with music.

I have a huge passion for both writing and music.

I'm trying to decide on which topic to do. Maybe, I can do a combination of the two???
